Toyota Etios Liva:
The Japanese hatch though doesn’t have much presence in its league, but in terms of safety it has staggering figures to boast of. The car has registered a praiseworthy 4-star rating in Global NCAP back in 2016 when it had only dual front airbags and front seat belts with pre-tensioners. Now, the car has been equipped with more safety aspects such as ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Reverse parking sensors, headlamp on warning with buzzer and rear defogger tops up the safety cover. The Etios hatchback comes in the price range of Rs 5.67-7.84 lakh (ex-showroom).
Maruti Suzuki Baleno:
The premium contender from Maruti Suzuki and consistent rival of Hyundai Elite i20, the Baleno is the dominant leader in its segment complying with the latest safety standards. The top of the line made in India variant had scored 4-star in the Euro NCAP ratings. The features which have helped grabbed this score include dual airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Other significant safety features available in the top-end Alpha variant include automatic headlamps, auto-dimming IRVM, rear parking camera with sensors, seat belt reminder and high speed warning. Maruti Suzuki Baleno is available at a starting price of Rs 5.59 lakh with the top end model going up to Rs 8.73 lakh (ex-showroom).
Hyundai Elite i20:
The slugfest in the premium hatchback was started by Hyundai Elite i20 and it’s still one of the favorites among the car buyers. The hatchback has scored 3-star safety ratings in Global NCAP crash test. The top end Asta (O) variant comes equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child mount and front seatbelt pre-tensioners. Other features include rear parking camera with sensors, speed alert system and seat belt reminder. Hyundai Elite i20 is available in the price range of Rs 5.52-9.32 lakh (ex-showroom).
Ford Figo:
The American hatchback has been steadily growing among its class and part of the credit goes to its safety. The car has received 3-star in Latin NCAP crash test with 3 stars for adult occupant safety and 4 stars for child occupant safety. The top of the line Titanium Blu variant is loaded with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and traction control system. Other interesting safety aspects include hill hold control, reverse parking camera with sensors, front and rear 3-point seat belts and driver and passenger seatbelt reminder. The price of Ford Figo starts at Rs 5.23 lakh and goes up to Rs 7.70 lakh (ex-showroom) for its range topping variant.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis:
The radically designed hatchback, Ignis is one of the most popular sub-4 meter vehicles in the company’s portfolio. The hatchback has recently bagged 3-star ratings in the Global NCAP crash test. The car is equipped with standard safety features including dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child-seat anchor points. Other important safety aspects include speed sensing auto door lock, driver seat belt reminder, rear parking sensors with rear parking camera and rear defogger. Maruti Suzuki Ignis is tagged in the price bracket of Rs 4.79 lakh-7.15 lakh (ex-showroom).
Toyota Glanza
The cross-breed of Maruti and Toyota is the latest in the list. The premium hatchback comes with all the bells and whistles found in the Baleno including dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mount. Although, it has not been tested yet for safety, but since it is based on the same platform as of Baleno, it can be assumed it gives the same level of protection in the adverse situation as of its counterpart. The price of Toyota Glanza falls in between Rs 7.22 lakh and Rs 8.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
