As of 2020, Amazon is poised to become an integral part of our lives in every sphere. The Jeff-Bezos led corporate giant is constantly devising new services and products that have the potential to revolutionize business and even daily life. Their growth as a company has been in leaps and bounds.
Sustainable Development
Amazon’s Climate Pledge is an initiative to make the company’s supply chain completely eco-friendly. The company is implementing this scheme across its worldwide operations. One of the major avenues they have focused on is the electrification of their delivery vehicle fleet to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels.

Charged Delivery
Amazon India has committed to incorporating 10,000 electric vehicles in its existing delivery vehicle fleet within the next five years. This is a solid step on the foundation that the company has already laid down previously. Amazon India tested the waters across major cities by running test pilots, and thanks to a successful result, they’re ready to wade into deeper waters.
Once implemented, this would work wonders for last-mile connectivity when it comes to Amazon’s deliveries across the country. The underlying benefit of being fuel-efficient and greatly reducing the company’s carbon footprint goes without saying.
India’s Electric Scenario
Amazon’s electric fleet enters the Indian arena at a very happening time. Currently, Mahindra and Tata rule the roost, with their electric vehicles. Mahindra’s Treo range and eSupro electric goods van are commercial offerings, while Tata is yet to open the sales of their Electric Ace to the commercial market. Even Amazon’s top competitor Flipkart is looking to enter the arena with their delivery vehicles. Clearly, there is promise in the electric commercial vehicle space, being at a grassroots stage in the country.
Amazon does not have any plans of making its electric three-wheelers commercially available at any point in the foreseeable future. Their focus will be on setting up the fleet to ensure smooth operations on a daily basis. This would set up a great front for employment opportunities in the country for this new infrastructure to be set up.
Seamless Integration
The decision by Amazon to put their best foot forward and launch more electric vehicles also goes perfectly in tandem with the Indian Government’s initiative to facilitate the development of electric vehicles in the country. With the implementation of the FAME 2 policy in the country, the road is paved for electric cars to get rolling, along with all the infrastructure required for their functioning.
With a firm step into the world of electric vehicles, Amazon is set to make inroads in terms of sustainable development for their supply chain. By 2030, they will have a massive fleet of EVs on the road. Eyes on the horizon for a successful venture!
