No one can forget the ever remarkable Bajaj scooter and now the company has made its comeback after nearly two decades with the launch of first e scooter. Bajaj retains the iconic name CHETAK which is more popular in the 1960s and 70s. The chetak is launched in its Urbanite EV section on September 25, 2019, at the Chakan plant of Bajaj.
STYLE
Chetak offers a driving range of 95 km in ECO mode and 85 km in SPORTS mode on a single charge of around five hours. Styled with rigid frame clad with sheet body panels and a tubular single suspension. Chetak stands tall on 12 inch cast alloy wheels, full metal body, and neo-retro design. The exterior look has been completely built inhouse, but the shape resembles the Vespa Elettrica and Vespa GTS 300. LED headlight with a line of LED day time running light, round retro-styled digital instrument cluster and unique feather touch switches with scrolling LED blinkers.
Completely, the design was fit and in no doubt that chetak can stand out in the models of e scooter in India at present.
TECHNOLOGY
As per the information disclosed, Chetak comes with an IP67 rated high tech lithium-ion battery with Nickel Cobalt Aluminium Oxide cells. Not a swappable battery but can be charged from a standard household 5 – 15 amp electrical outlet. Chetak will be available in six different colors.
PRICING
Bajaj Chetak is expected to be launched in January 2020 initially in Pune and Bengaluru. It will be sold in the brand existing network KTM and Husqvarna. Price range is not revealed exactly but can be approximately Rs 90000 and Rs 1.5 lakhs
COMPETITORS
Chetak will give tough competition to e scooters from Ather, Okinawa, Hero electric and other start-up companies. But some existing player has better range and less charging time than Chetak.
Bajaj with 1000 people in its research and development team where the majority of them worked to build Chetak. Nearly more than two years has been invested to create the best.
