Electric vehicles are proving to be the harbinger of sustainable development in the automobile industry. Why? Because the world has a finite supply of fossil fuels, and once they’re gone, we’ll have more than starting trouble when it comes to our cars.
The Indian market is no different. We’ve all heard of Delhi’s severe pollution woes. We can’t deny that conventional cars are part of the problem. The other common gripe we get to hear is, how the price of petrol and diesel are burning holes in people’s wallets and purses. Clearly, we need an alternative solution, and we need it fast.
Fortunately, we have a sizeable roster of electric vehicles making landfall in the Indian market over the course of the next year. They hold great promise in easing out India’s fuel woes and potentially reshaping the Indian automobile sector. The interesting thing to note is that almost every major carmaker seems to have an electric ace up their sleeve for next year. Let’s take a closer look at them individually:
1) Tata Nano EV
Estimated starting price:₹ 5 Lakhs
Let’s start with the smallest of the small. By merging their budget car with a fuel-efficient electric engine, Tata may have a winner on their hands. There’s no official statement on the electric Nano yet, but experts say it is very much on the cards. The 48-volt power is said to be coming out sometime later this year and is speculated to run 200km on a single charge.
