1. Watchout fortyres
Your only contact with the surface is tyre. Take extreme care in ensuring they are equally pumped up for the vacation as you are. Avoid over inflating and keep it at the optimum level. This is needed as there will be two heats acting on the tyre – heat from the road and the one generated by rolling of the tyres. If you over inflate the tyres, both the heats will create pressure and the tyre will expand which may eventually lead to a tyre blowout. At 90kmph, this is the worst thing you can imagine, right? Take necessary halts to keep the car’s engine and tyrescool. Ensure the spare tyre is free from punctures and is adequately inflated.
- Registration book: It will help buyer know the exact proof of your date of purchase of the car and that it’s the same car registered with the RTO. The buyer can verify the chassis number mentioned on the book with that on your car to establish trust. If you changed the chassis in any condition, the new chassis number would be mentioned on it as well.
- NOC (No Objection Certificate): If you had a loan on your car, keep the no objection certificate from the bank ready.
- RTO tax details: The one time taxation record is mentioned here. This tax is generally paid at the time when you buy a new vehicle.
- Invoice: Keep the original invoice document with you. It will have the key details like date of purchase of car, chassis number, engine number, etc.
- PUC certificate: You need to have a valid Pollution Under Control or PUC certificate. It costs very minimal amount and works for one year on new cars. It needs to be procured after every six months subsequently.
2. Complete Inspection
Instead of the buyer getting it done and pointing out issues in your car, it is better you get it thoroughly inspected by authorized service center or by an expert mechanic at least. If any small niggling issues are found, get it repaired or replaced (parts). For major issues, you can take a decision whether you want to notify the buyer about it and are ready to lose a sizable amount or would get it sorted for yourself and negotiate for a better deal. For instance, a broken side mirror may look like a small expense but it can reduce the price of the car substantially.
3. Careful Detailing
A shining chic car is far too inviting then a plain vanilla car layered with dust parked in the garage. Before you set out on your voyage to sell your car, get it washed and waxed from the local car wash shop or from a service center. As it goes without saying ‘first impression is the last impression’, a prospective buyer is likely to be lured into your car if it looks clean and shining at the first glance. Besides the exterior, get a detailed cleaning done on the interior as well. Get a new seat cover if the old one looks withered as it can gleam up the cabin to a great extent. Put a car air freshener inside so that it sets the mood of the buyer when he goes out for the test drive.
4. Know its Worth
Before hopping on to sell your car, it is advisable to get a ball park figure of your used car. Things have become way simpler these days as there are various websites which give you an estimate of your car based on the details you fill in like its model year, variant, kilometers run, etc. You can even check classifieds and physically visit a local car dealer in your area to get an approximate value of your car. Besides this a lot of other factors are involved too which determine the price of your vehicle. Brand name plays an important role in getting a good price. For instance, a 3 year old Fiat Punto Evo with 40,000 kilometers on odo may not be able to fetch a similar deal compared to a similarly used Maruti Suzuki Swift. Between the two, Maruti Suzuki would obviously fetch a way better price.
5. Car Insurance
If your record is clean and you have not availed any claims in the past, chances are you can get a good deal as it shows how careful you are as a driver and that there were no accidents in the past. You can also use this for your benefit as when you decide to sell your car, you can intimate to your car insurance company that you want the no claims bonus (NCB) to be transferred or preserved for the next two years.
